5 Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Accident Claim
After an accident, what you do (or don’t do) can cost you thousands. Here are the 5 most common mistakes we see — and how to avoid them. Attorney Sara Roque helps you, even if you’re undocumented.
Many people with valid cases end up with nothing, or far less than they deserve, because of avoidable mistakes. Here are the five most common.
1. Not getting medical care right away
If you wait days to see a doctor, the insurer will say your injuries “weren’t serious.” See a doctor the same day, even if you feel fine.
2. Talking to the other insurer without advice
Their job is to pay you as little as possible. Anything you say can be used against you. Don’t give recorded statements without a lawyer.
3. Accepting the first offer
It’s almost always low, and once you sign there’s no going back. Know what your case is worth before accepting anything.
4. Posting on social media
A photo of you smiling or lifting something can destroy your claim. Don’t post anything about the accident while your case is open.
5. Waiting too long to call a lawyer
In Texas you generally have two years to file, but evidence disappears within days. The sooner you act, the stronger your case.
